Ο Διονύσης Ασημακόπουλος είναι Ομότιμος Καθηγητής της Σχολής Χημικών Μηχανικών του Εθνικού Μετσόβιου Πολυτεχνείου Αθηνών, όπου δίδαξε από το 1981 έως το 2017, και Συντονιστής της Ερευνητικής Μονάδας Περιβαλλοντικής και Ενεργειακής Διαχείρισης της Σχολής.

Διαθέτει εκτενή εμπειρία σε θέσεις ευθύνης, έχοντας διατελέσει μέλος διοικητικών συμβουλίων σε διάφορους οργανισμούς και αρχές τα τελευταία 15 χρόνια:

  • Μέλος της Ρυθμιστικής Αρχής Αποβλήτων, Ενέργειας και Υδάτων (Κλάδος Αποβλήτων) από το 2024.
  • Μέλος του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου του Δημοτικού Οργανισμού του Δήμου Αθηναίων «Εθνικός Κήπος – Μητροπολιτικό Πράσινο Α.Ε.» (2020-2024)

Έχει συμμετάσχει σε περισσότερα από 60 χρηματοδοτούμενα ερευνητικά και εκπαιδευτικά έργα τα τελευταία 30 χρόνια. Οι τρέχουσες ερευνητικές του δραστηριότητες επικεντρώνονται στην Προσαρμογή στην Κλιματική Αλλαγή και στη Διαχείριση Ενέργειας, Υδάτινων Πόρων και Περιβαλλοντικών Συστημάτων. Έχει συγγράψει περισσότερες από 200 δημοσιεύσεις σε έγκριτα επιστημονικά περιοδικά, συνέδρια και βιβλία/εγχειρίδια.

Έχει συνεργαστεί ως εξωτερικός αξιολογητής/εμπειρογνώμονας με διάφορους φορείς σε πολλά έργα της Ελλάδας και του εξωτερικού.

Διαχείριση υδατικών πόρων.

ΑΠΕ και Συστήματα αφαλάτωσης.
Σχεδιασμός Ολοκληρωμένων Συστημάτων Ανανεώσιμων Μορφών Ενέργειας. Διερεύνηση της Αγοράς ΑΠΕ, αξιολόγηση χρηματοδοτικών επιλογών και διαμόρφωση πολιτικών για μεγάλη διείσδυση των ΑΠΕ σε περιφερειακά ενεργειακά συστήματα. Σχεδιασμός και επίβλεψη μονάδων αφαλάτωσης, διερεύνηση της σημερινής κατάστασης και της διείσδυσης συστημάτων αφαλάτωσης καθώς και των δυνατοτήτων ανάπτυξης ενεργειακά αυτόνομων υβριδικών συστημάτων με ανανεώσιμες πηγές ενέργειας, όπως η ηλιακή και η αιολική.
