Dionysios Assimacopoulos is an Emeritus Professor at the School of Chemical Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens, where he taught from 1981 to 2017. He is also the Coordinator of the Environmental and Energy Management Research Unit at the School.

He has extensive experience in leadership positions, having served as a board member in various organizations and authorities over the past 15 years.

  • Member of the Regulatory Authority for Waste, Energy, and Water (Waste Sector) since 2024.
  • He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Organization of the Municipality of Athens "National Garden - Metropolitan Green S.A." from 2020 to 2024.
  • He was the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Renewable Energy Sources (CRES) from 2020 to 2021.
  • He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Greek Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development from 2017 to 2020.
  • He was a member and Vice President of the Board of Directors of EYDAP S.A. (2010-2013).

He has participated in more than 60 funded research and educational projects over the last 30 years. His current research activities focus on Climate Change Adaptation and the Management of Energy, Water Resources, and Environmental Systems. He has authored over 200 publications in reputable scientific journals, conferences, and books/manuals.

He has collaborated as an external evaluator/expert with various organizations on numerous projects in Greece and abroad.
